Bhakti Thoughts 1

I've been thinking a lot about how I speak unnecessarily. Most of the time I vibrate sound vibrations that are not positive. When we're stuck in the modes of passion and ignorance we perform actions and speak words that are not conducive to spiritual life. I recently read this quote in Shrimad-Bhagavatam Second Canto, Chapter 5, text 13: "The invincibly powerful deluding energy of the Personality of God, or the third energy, representing nescience, can bewilder the entire world of animation, but still she is not strong enough to be able to stand in front of the Supreme Lord. Nescience is behind the Personality of Godhead, where she is powerful enough to mislead the living beings, and the primary symptom of bewildered persons is that they talk nonsense. Nonsensical talks are not supported by the principles of Vedic literatures, and first-grade nonsense talk is "It is I, it is mine.""
In all great teachings, religions and other forms of enlightenment controlling the mind and tongue are very important. What we speak is very important to the world. Vibrations are everywhere effecting us in ways that we cannot understand unless we're on the liberated platform. Some people will say that I'm for censorship. In some ways I am. We all have free will, but I think there's a great difference between art produced by the surrealists, books written by people like the Marquis de Sade, movies like Holy Mountain, and then video games like Grand Theft Auto. Basically, we have to look and see if this is going to make me think about life or is this creating a tendency in me to create violence against life.

I agree with you regarding the negative influence of video games. Particuarly: Grand Theft Auto, Manhunt, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band. They teach us poor values and distract us from our true purpose in life. In the big picture of spirituality, they are a waste of time.

Interestingly, some of the above mentioned games have been completley banned in some countries. This shows that some leaders, although lacking in spiritual knowledge, have at least seen a practical reason to censor such violent and sexually explicit video games.

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" was banned in Australia.

The upcoming "Grand Theft Auto: IV" has already been banned in the UK.

"Manhunt 2" was banned in New Zealand as well as in the UK.
